Dear (School Official’s Name)
I understand that the After School Satan Club (ASSC) was approved to host meetings on school property but that permission was
subsequently rescinded based on a disruption of school operations which was the result of a credible threat. It is extremely unfortunate that a threat was
made, as threats should never be an attempted solution to community disputes. However, I believe the issue was compounded by using this threat as the basis
for rescinding approval.
Instead, the district only had to find that denying the After School Satan Club permission to use school facilities was in the ‘best
interest of the district’. Your policy 707 states, The Board reserves the right to deny permission to use Saucon Valley District facilities
when it deems this action to be in the best interests of the school district.
This policy seems to be perfectly lawful and easily defended because denial is based on community polarization, not religion. SVSD 707 is
very similar to the nationally recognized School Board Policy 707 “Use of School Facilities” which further strengthens the district’s right-to-deny.
All a person needs to do is read some of the comments on the district’s own social media pages to see how much pure hatred is shown toward
those who oppose the ASSC. Because the ASSC’s stated goal is to be denied permission to operate with the intent of then filing a law
suit to have the Good News Club thrown out of district facilities as well, the mere possibility of the ASSC making Saucon Valley Schools their
Lehigh Valley home has divided the community and caused an uproar.
It should be obvious to even the most unbiased spectator that as a result of this extreme community polarization, any ASSC presence
whatsoever is not “in the best interests of the school district” and must be denied on that basis.
At some point in the future, there may be pressure placed upon you to modify school policy in order to accommodate the After School Satan
Club. Since policy changes require a board vote, and since voting records are easily tracked, know that I will urge every district resident possible, to
oppose the reelection of any board member who votes in favor of the ASSC.
Sincerely,
